Film Institute
This seminar is designed to explore the various types and uses of film through hands-on cinematic exercises. Students will integrate 21st Century technology skills into the creative process in order to learn how to effectively use digital media for communication. Students will experience the film making process from pre-production to post-production and will gain knowledge of the professional language of film making. Students will explore sophisticated film and lighting techniques, editing, and the potential career opportunities in the film/video industry. In this seminar, students will enhance their visual literacy and writing skills while creating original products like public service announcements, documentaries, and stop motion films.

Film Seminar is offered for Beginners and Advanced Film students
Each year the students in this seminar have an opportunity to participate in the Movies That Matter Film Festival. Several final projects are selected from each school to be shown on the "Big Screen" at the AFI Silver Theatre and Multicultural Center in Silver Spring, MD. The festival showcases original student films created as part of Film Education and other GT Instructional Seminars.
The major content of this course includes:
- Exploring the various types of media
- Understanding the history of film
- Selecting a topic and developing ideas
- Creating a storyboard
- Writing a script
- Producing and directing a film
- Utilizing various camera shots
- Editing with a purpose
- Looking at films with a critical eye.
